GEORGE NEWS
My Sweet Lord reissue
"My Sweet Lord" cd single was released in Australia on February 11th, more than 30 years since it first was a number one hit on the Australian charts. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this single will be going to the bushfire Appeal that was set up for victims of the New South Wales bushfires last December with the rest going to George's own charity "The Material World Charitable Foundation", which supports other worldwide charities concentrating particularly on the poor and children. The single has already reached number one in the UK and other countries as well so make sure you grab a copy so as we can help George to a number one here as well!
George Tribute Concert
On February 24th a tribute concert honouring George was held at Liverpool's Empire Theatre. The show attracted an audience of approximately 2000 people and was sold out within hours of tickets going on sale. Artists such as Ralph McTell, Steve Harley and Pete Wylie all donated their time for free with all proceeds of the show going to Macmillan Cancer Relief and other cancer charities. The biggest surprise of the night was Paul getting up on stage and doing an a cappella version of Yesterday in which he changed the lyrics to "Why he had to go he didn't say" . Before performing Paul said ""It is always lovely to come back to my home town. I have so many memories - and of course a lot of them are of George.' He continued by saying "We go way back. We both used to live in Speke and he used to get on the bus one stop after me. We used to have a half an hour on the bus to talk about guitars and music and stuff like that. "He was a lovely bloke. He gave a lot to the world - his music and his spirituality. He was always a very strong man. I think he would be delighted with this,"

BAND MEMBERS
Wix Wickens - Keyboards
(Great to see Wix joining Paul again on the road after taking part in Paul's
1990 & 1993 tours)
Rusty Anderson - Guitar (Rusty played on the Driving Rain album)
Abe Laboriel, Jr. - Drums (Also played on Driving Rain)
Brian Ray - Guitar & Bass where necessary
Would be nice to see James pop up on stage but don't know if this will eventuate
and the likelihood of Heather doing an oboe solo on
any of Paul's songs is very unlikely.
Whilst nobody at
this stage has any inkling of songs that will be performed (except Paul and
his band!) we can probably expect a mix
of new tracks from "Driving Rain" , solo tracks , Wings tracks and
of course Beatles songs.
We will keep you updated on any new developments re the Driving USA tour and
hopefully be able to announce soon that Paul is indeed going to visit Down
Under again soon !
RINGO NEWS
Nothing to report regarding Ringo at the moment but we will bring you any Ringo news as soon as we hear of anything new.
JOHN & YOKO NEWS
Yoko purchases billboard space for message
Yoko has purchased
a billboard in London to promote peace just like she did previously with John
when they had their 'Happy Xmas' message displayed. The sign in London (not
sure of the actual address) says "Imagine all the people living life
in peace'. Yoko decided to do the billboard after the World Trade Centre tragedy,
she says "After the horrible events of September 11, I thought it was a very
important time to remind people of this message, because the world needs peace,"
"I first put the billboard in Times Square, it's still up there, and then
in Tokyo, with the same message in Japanese and English. I wanted it in London
because it's a city that I have a special love for, and have fond memories
of."
Wonder when we will see a similar billboard put up by Yoko in Australia -
there is plenty of spare billboard space in Sydney and Melbourne ,Yoko so
why not spread the peace message here as well !
